On Increasing Stability in the Continuation and Inverse Problems
Victor Isakov (Wichita State University)

Abstract:

We discuss better stability in recovery of a solution, source terms and some coefficients of the Helmholtz type equation from remote data when the wave number is increasing. This issue is crucial for applications of inverse problems  (and of control theory), since in many cases the numerical resolution is very low and one can find only few parameters of unknown medium or an object. We outline methods of proofs (energy estimates, analytic continuation, and use of the FBI transform) and give a strong numerical evidence of better resolution.
